Waterbeach Primary School

Waterbeach Community Primary School has been on its present site for over 50 years and has 390 pupils ranging from reception to Year 6. The hub of the local community, Waterbeach Primary School hosts playgroups, amateur dramatics and is also the local Scout and Guides headquarters. With the village of Waterbeach continually growing, the current extension of the primary school opens up more than 250 new places to the local community.

Margherita Cesca, Senior Architect and Project Lead at Saunders Boston Architects, said: “The design aim of the project was to generate a sense of place for the students whilst providing elements to aid and inspire creativity and enthusiasm. We know the use of colour has a significant impact on emotion, influencing learning capacity and we wanted to incorporate this into the new school”. To achieve this, a bold rainbow theme was introduced throughout the new school building, from splashes of colour playfully placed on the external brick work to the
co-ordinating coat pegs in the classrooms.

Knowing that the new school washrooms needed to be able to cope with the growing number of students and deliver on looks as well as performance, TBS Amwell’s Splash range was the ideal choice for the new toilet cubicles. Made of Solid Grade Laminate, a durable hardwearing material, Saunders Boston knew that Splash was the range Waterbeach Primary School could depend on for years to come. Designed to withstand high traffic and constant use, the low height children’s doors provide the privacy that students need, whilst ensuring supervision is always possible when required. Satin Anodised Aluminium fixtures and fittings add a modern finishing touch to the washrooms and the emergency release locks mean students will always be in safe hands. Co-ordinating PDQ Panel & Frame Ducting was also supplied to complete the washroom look. With a wide range of colours in the standard range continuing the rainbow colour theme throughout the washrooms was light work.

Installers TBS Fabrications, appointed by main contractors Kier, commented on the ease of the installation of the Splash washroom cubicles. All pilasters and divisions are fixed using specifically designed U-channels, which  enabled a quick and smooth installation.
